The DirectorWelcome to the Camburrow website.

Camburrow is the latest film project for the Blue Ocean Pictures studios in Cornwall. This site will follow the process from the earliest stages - which are just underway now - to the film's premiere.

Camburrow - What its all about!

In essence, Camburrow is a story about the struggle to keep an 1815 Cornish tin mine profitable and of one person's determination to start a new working and prove to themselves, their family and the local community that they can make a go of things.

The film aims to explore some of the drama and dangers down the mine as well as the emotional roller coaster of those who are trying to juggle the money and logistics of the task.

Sounds like Poldark to you?

Well, there's an element of that, certainly. No film making group down in Cornwall can ignore the impact this series had on Cornwall - or be unaware of the chord it struck in a community still strewn with the architecture of tin mining.

The Story
Our mine owner is no Poldark. Our mine owner is Charlotte Trevillion, a widow recently returned from her Jamaican sugar plantation. Husband-less but wealthy, Charlotte is used to managing a complicated business for herself - of being self-reliant and resourceful. She has a far better head for business then her brother and a willful strength of character that she will need to make a go of things back home.

Charlotte will have to overcome the prejudice of both the miners themselves and the powerful local landowners who cannot comprehend what a woman could possibly know about business or mining. She will have to cope, too, with the physical obstacles that inevitably crop up in running a mine - floods, roof-falls and labour difficulties. She will be hampered too by those who seek to profit from the "inevitable" failure of the Camburrow mines - but who are not above helping that failure along a bit behind the scenes.

We intend to explore some of the key characters and their inter-relationships. One key aspect will be the interaction between Charlotte and her brother. In the manner of families this is likely to be tense at times - particularly since there is a certain amount of "wounded pride" on Mr Trevillion's part (his sister "bailing him out" and getting involved with running the mine) but family ties prevail. The combination of Lord Pendennis and his Estate manager represent the main opposition to the success of the Camburrow mines whilst there is just a hint of romance between Charlotte and a surveyor who is working on the route for a new mineral tramway in the area.

We are aiming for a story that is both gritty and inspiring, with some action but also powerful, believable characters. Most of all we wish to do justice, and pay tribute to, Cornwall's history and make a film that, like the Poldark series, resonates with Cornish folk today.

Camburrow movie project is brilliant. The actors are all brilliant. The director and producer are all brilliant. Georgie and Alex are particularly brilliant. The women actors are all good looking. Some of the men are handsome? Me included I don't think so! The weather has been brilliant except for last Wednesday when it was shite! Rumour has it that the director will put his hand in his pocket and pay for us all to go to Jamaica for the follow up movie sometime next year when the warmer months come? It's going well folks and thanks to you all for turning up so dilligently and helping to make it a success despite obvious jealousy in some quarters of the vast Cornish filming industry who as we speak has its wheels grinding from Rame Head to Lands End as it attempts to muscle in on the world wide Hollywood creation machine. Love to all from Sgt Radford. "Oi, I want my dinner! You're nicked!"
